Glenorchy City Council meeting

Southern City BMX Clubs, President (Michael Beames) and Vice President (Patrick Berry) attended the Glenorchy City Council (GCC) last night to talk about the clubs future and the process moving forward.

Over the next few months, the GCC will be asking members of the community to complete a survey regarding the land our club sits on and its current use.

When the survey comes out, we encourage all members to complete the form and provide their thoughts back to the Council.

The GCC is also in the process of completing a master plan for the Glenorchy MTB Park and have engaged Dirt Art to complete the plan/study. Committee member Nathan Maynard has been asked to join the advisory board in regards to all BMX Track questions and to help explore opportunities for our club within the newly proposed park.

Throughout the conversation, we were able to confirm that the Council have committed to ensuring we would not need to vacate our current location untill a new site was complete. The Council also confirmed that any new facility would be to BMXA Standards and designed to help attract national events to the area.

GCC also confirmed that they are in the process of finalising answers to questions the club presented them at the last Council Meeting and will provide a written response shortly which we will post here as soon as it becomes available.

Finally, we can confirm that the expected time frames in regards to any move would be approximately 2.5 to 3 years. This is because it takes time to produce a master plan, obtain finance and construct any new facilities so for the foreseeable future we will continue to race, train and have fun at our current track which is exciting news!

If any club member has any concerns regarding the above information, please contact the club directly. If we can not answer your questions, we will contact the GCC on your behalf and provide the correct information back to ensure a single point of truth for all information regarding the clubs future.
